Bridge of Sighs is the second solo album by the English guitarist and songwriter Robin Trower. Released in 1974, information technology was his second album after leaving Procol Harum, and was a commercial breakthrough for Trower. Songs such as "Span of Sighs", "Too Rolling Stoned", "Day of the Eagle" and "Piddling Bit of Sympathy" became alive concert staples.

The album was produced by organist Matthew Fisher, formerly Trower'due south bandmate in Procol Harum. Acclaimed Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick was this album'southward sound engineer.

In an interview with Guitar Globe,^[3] Trower explained how the album got its championship. Robin said that he had had the first line of the song for years and one day saw some sport pages which listed a racehorse called Bridge of Sighs, which he idea would be a swell title. One tin safely assume that the horse was named later the well-known structure of the same name that is in Venice, Italy -- unquestionably, the bridge predated the horse by centuries.

Bridge of Sighs was the 2d Trower release to feature cover art by "Funky" Paul Olsen.

Bridge of Sighs (Chrysalis 1057) reached #seven in the United states of america during a nautical chart stay of 31 weeks. It was certified Aureate on x September 1974. Early printings of the original anthology embrace had the front paradigm upside-downwards and were more than greenish in colour.

The championship track was covered by Opeth for the special edition of their 2008 anthology, Watershed. Steve Lukather covered it for his 2021 album, I Plant the Sun Over again. A segment of it also appears as a subconscious runway on Metallica's 1998 embrace album Garage Inc.

"Day of the Eagle" was covered past Baton Idol guitarist Steve Stevens on his third solo album Retentiveness Crash (2008). Tesla also covered the song on their 2007 Existent to Reel album equally did Armored Saint on their Nod to the Old School record.

"Too Rolling Stoned" was covered by UFO on their 2017 covers anthology The Salentino Cuts.
